Tesla recently highlighted the advantages and benefits of its Manufacturing Development Program (MDP). The MDP is an initiative for high school students that could provide participants with a path to a career at Tesla.
The MDP program is designed to provide graduating high school students with the necessary resources to kickstart a career at Tesla. The MDP program is quite robust, as it provides students with financial resources, coursework, and experience needed to qualify for a job at the company.
For now, Tesla has rolled out its MDP program for graduating high school students living in California, Nevada, New York, and Texas — the four states in the United States which host a major Tesla facility today. Tesla noted that the application process for the MDP program is easy, with students participating in a series of information sessions and interviews after they submit their application.
Students who are selected for the Manufacturing Development Program would then receive an offer and be invited to a signing day celebration. After completing the program’s requirements, which include specific courses at local colleges, MDP participants would earn a Tesla Advanced Manufacturing Certification. They could then start work as a Production Associate at the Fremont Factory, Giga Nevada, Giga New York, or Giga Texas.
Tesla notes that MDP participants would be offered positions that are full-time, with pay and benefits. They would be given ownership of TSLA stock as well. Comments from participants of the program, such as Justice Fevella-Potes, who was part of the MDP’s 2019 class and who now works as a Level 3 Process Engineering Tech, highlight some of the MDP’s advantages.
“I’ve been able to advance to a Level 3 Process Engineering Tech, working hands-on with products and investigating ways to make them better and more efficient every day. MDP allowed me to grow, and my brother is now part of the program,” Fevella-Potes said.
