Recent revelations shed light on Tesla’s meeting with Indian government officials, intensifying speculation surrounding the automaker’s potential entry into the Indian market.
Reports indicate that last week, Tesla had sent several executives, including Rohan Patel and Roshan Thomas, to meet with Nivruti Rai, the CEO of Invest India, in New Delhi. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the details of a potential market entry, which seems to be increasingly plausible.
In addition to meeting with Rai, Tesla also had a meeting with India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, with at least one other government official present, as reported by Reuters. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other officials are closely monitoring the discussions with Tesla, particularly after Modi’s prior meeting with CEO Elon Musk earlier this year, fueling rumors of Tesla’s potential arrival in India.
During the meeting with Goyal, Tesla discussed its plans for entering the Indian market, although specific details remain undisclosed.
Yesterday, it was reported that Tesla had already secured office space in Pune’s Panchshil Business Park, leasing a 5,850-square-foot area under its Indian subsidiary, Tesla India Motor & Energy, further supporting the growing possibility of Tesla’s presence in India.
Tesla and India have been in discussions for years regarding a business relationship, it just has not panned out due to each side needing things that the other was unable to accommodate. However, it seems that things have taken a much more serious turn this time around, as some serious headway in terms of negotiations has occurred this year.
