New pictures of the 2021 Refreshed Model S were unveiled by Tesla, showing an updated interior with a new horizontal dash screen, a new steering wheel, wood grain trim, an updated center console, and a touchscreen for the rear passenger.
It has been rumored that the Model S Refresh will take place for several months. The company closed the production lines of Model S and Model X in December, initiating the thought that its long-standing sedan and SUV will get the update they deserve.
A horizontal dash screen, hailing the style of Model 3 and Model Y, is included in the redesigned interior. Previously, both Model S and X had a vertical touchscreen, stretching from the top of the dash to the center console. Tesla took a few pieces of inspiration from the latest Model 3 interior and a wireless charging mechanism available below the center panel.
With its half-circle shape, the steering wheel is reminiscent of the Tesla Roadster. The Model S interior has also been made even more minimalistic by Tesla than before, eliminating air-conditioning and heat vents. The latest version has the vents covered using the Airwave HVAC and also seems to be inspired by the interior of the Model 3 and Model Y. There will be tri-zone controls in the updated system, allowing for tailored airflow options for optimum comfort.
A newly built center console, which is a clean, one-piece design, was also given to the Model S. Using a sliding door configuration instead of a conventional swinging architecture, the Model 3 also received an updated center console and storage space. Door pickets have now been introduced to the Model S for more storage, a trait that has long been missing from the sedan.
THREE DISPLAYS
“With 2200×1300 resolution, ultra-bright colors with exceptional responsiveness and left-right tilt, the new center display is an ideal touchscreen for entertainment and gaming anywhere. A second display in front of the driver shows critical driving information, and a third display provides entertainment and controls for rear passengers.”
GAME FROM ANYWHERE
“Up to 10 teraflops of processing power enables in-car gaming on-par with today’s newest consoles via Tesla Arcade. Wireless controller compatibility allows gaming from any seat.”
TRI-ZONE CLIMATE CONTROLS
“Airflow and temperature are controlled entirely through the displays without any physical vents. On hot days, Cabin Overheat Protection ensures interiors always stay cool. In cold weather, pre-conditioning automatically warms the cabin and prepares the battery for maximum range.”
YOKE STEERING
“The ultimate focus on driving: no stalks, no shifting. With a stalkless steering yoke, you can enjoy both the best car to drive, and the best car to be driven in.”
GLASS ROOF
“The full Glass Roof gives passengers a brighter, more spacious experience and unobstructed views of the sky. Infrared and UV light is effectively blocked before entering the cabin, reducing heat and glare even when the sun is directly overhead.”
Passengers will be given the opportunity to have their own small, centrally positioned dash screen at the rear of the car, which appears to display a game. This means that passengers in the back are not going to miss all the fun the front occupants have, as they are now going to be interested in all the gamification and fun Tesla provides with their vehicles. Rear climate controls would also possibly be available on this screen, but not shown.
This past weekend, Teslarati spotted the new Model S at the Fremont Plant, showcasing a freshly redesigned body design that retains the classic look of the flagship sedan with a few revamped features. The Tesla Model S offers the latest design it undoubtedly deserves with broader body designs, along with many aesthetic changes, and performance modifications.
