The 2021.04.05 Software Update was officially rolled out by Tesla China celebrating Chinese New Year. “The Year of the Ox” update includes new features such as TikTok, sing-a-long capabilities of QQ Music Lyrics, and improved functionality for voice recognition.
Chinese New Year has officially begun on Friday, February 12th in China, marking the beginning of “the Year of the Ox.” The Ox applies to anyone born in 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, or 2021, and denotes someone with diligent, dependable, strong, and determined personality traits, China Highlights said.
To celebrate the beginning of the New Year, Tesla has offered a new software update, passing along many new features to owners who have embraced the company’s full-fledged effort to dominate the electric vehicle market in the region.
Tik Tok
Vehicles will now be fitted with the widely popular TikTok application with a new entertainment feature. Tesla owners will now be able to watch TikToks from their all-electric cars, like, comment, and share, a new feature that will only add to the options available to drivers at leisure times. Entertainment opportunities have mainly been a priority of Tesla’s because of the downtime needed for Supercharging, but with the introduction of the company’s Full Self-Driving suite, it also opens the door for more activities. Tesla expects autonomy for Level 5 to be launched in the U.S. later this year, but China has no timetable.
QQ Music Lyrics
Tesla also introduced QQ Music Lyrics, a separate function from the infamous “Caraoke” feature of the business. Tesla owners will now be able to draw up lyrics to their favorite songs at the touch of a button, another entertainment choice that many drivers are sure to enjoy. Any album on the QQ Music Streaming application will support the lyrics.
Improved Voice Recognition
Improvements to Tesla’s Voice Recognition have also been introduced to the update, offering drivers a greater variety of command choices for their vehicles. Tesla showed several examples in a video that it shared from its Weibo account. Speech recognition or voice order features are one of the most conventional features in most cars today. This eliminates the need for the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel to perform a task, making it safer for others who need to complete other tasks, such as entering a new navigation destination or sending a text message while driving the vehicle.
Since the start of Model 3 shipments in January 2020, Tesla has become the most successful EV brand in China. The Model 3 was China’s most successful EV in 2020, selling over 139,000 units, holding 11 percent of the country’s overall market share of electric cars. Tesla also recently started deliveries in January of the Made in China Model Y.
