Through The Musk Foundation, Elon Musk has contributed $5 million to the Khan Academy, an American non-profit educational organization that aims to assist students and teachers around the world by offering access to affordable, world-class education. The donation was shared by the founder of the Khan Academy, Salman Khan, who in a YouTube video thanked the CEO.
Khan noted in his message that the $5 million donation by The Musk Foundation would go a long way towards accelerating the projects of the academy. With about 20 to 30 million students using the website of the Khan Academy every month, Musk’s $5 million donation will, after all, provide a major boost to the programs of the non-profit.
“Elon, I hope you really feel good about this. This is going to allow us to accelerate all sorts of content. Our aspirations are all subjects from K through the early stages of college. This will accelerate our science content, allow us to do more on early learning, allow us to make the software and practice that much more engaging for millions of students around the world, for teachers around the world,” Khan said.
Khan noted that the academy still needs much more money in the immediate future, provided that Elon Musk’s $5 million donation would go a long way. The founder noted that the online academy operates on a budget close to that of a large school, but has plans to appeal to students around the world. With this in mind, the donation from Musk will potentially speed up some funding for the project, which has touched so many lives around the world.
Khan Academy aims to provide every student with a free, personalized learning experience, based primarily on videos that are hosted through YouTube. The academy website supports the videos, providing services such as progress monitoring, practice activities, and instructional resources for students and teachers. Support for mobile applications is also available.
