Tesla officially unveiled Tesla Tequila: 100 percent de agave tequila, an exclusive, small-batch premium.
For over two years, Tesla Tequila has been an idea in the making in what began as a joke on April Fools 2018. A photograph of CEO Elon Musk jokingly declaring “Chapter 14 and a half” bankruptcy, Tesla joked that it had run out of money, and with bottles of “Teslaquila” Musk was soaking his sorrows in.
The Tesla community immediately latched onto the sustainable energy and car company’s idea of making its own, exclusive tequila. Musk’s sense of humor took over and one of the CEO’s many side gigs became a brand of sustainably-sourced alcohol. Unfortunately, as patent registrations showed that Musk would not have rights to the name, the notion of it being named Teslaquila had to be left behind.
The Tesla Tequila is currently available for purchase on Tesla’s website. For $250, buyers can get a 40 percent / 80 proof Tesla Tequila proof 750mL bottle.
The company states:
“Introducing Tesla Tequila, an exclusive, small-batch premium 100% de agave tequila añejo made from sustainably sourced highland and lowland agaves. Aged for 15 months in French oak barrels and into a hand-blown glass bottle, Tesla Tequila features a dry fruit and light vanilla nose with a balanced cinnamon pepper finish. Best enjoyed as a sipping tequila.”
The item will also come in a glass, electricity volt-shaped bottle, perfectly fitting the company’s charge toward sustainably sourced energy.
