Tesla Model S Plaid could make an appearance at China’s International Consumer Product Expo

Tesla has revealed that the entire S3XY line will be on display at China’s upcoming International Consumer Goods Expo in Hainan province. From May 7 to May 10, 2021, the Hainan expo is expected to attract over 1,300 global brands from over 69 countries, as well as 800 Chinese brands.

Tesla is a well-known inventor. Since the Model 3’s domestic production began at the Gigafactory Shanghai, China has been a powerful pillar for the EV automaker. The locally manufactured Model Y, which helped Tesla achieve stellar delivery and sales numbers in the first quarter, continued to lift the bar this year. At the expo, the MIC Model 3 and Model Y will undoubtedly be on display. The question is which Model S and X iterations will be present at the case.

A number of new products are expected to debut during the event, according to local media. The International Consumer Products Expo in China could be the best opportunity to introduce the updated Tesla Model S and Model X (possibly even the Plaid variants) to the Chinese market.

The expo’s position is extremely advantageous. China announced last year that by the middle of the century, it intends to turn Hainan province into a globally significant, high-level free trade port. The port of Hainan is an ideal match for China’s dual circulation growth model, in which global and domestic businesses complement and improve one another.

“The expo will realize direct transactions between global buyers and sellers, introduce foreign high-quality consumer goods, and make up for the shortage of domestic high-end product supplies,” explained Wang Bingnan, China’s vice minister of commerce.

“The expo will build a global exhibition and trading platform for international consumer products, conducive to building Hainan into an international tourism consumption destination,” Wang said.

During the festival, Tesla China invited attendees to come to its booth and see the S3XY line. It’s unclear if Tesla’s booth will take orders or simply answer questions about its vehicles.
