Tesla Model 3 driver arrested after Autopilot misuse in backseat

Param Sharma, 25, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol’s Golden Gate Division for recklessly driving a Tesla Model 3.

Param Sharma was charged with reckless driving for allowing his Tesla Model 3 to cruise down Interstate 80 (I-80) without a driver, according to a CHP social media post about the arrest. Sharma sat in the backseat as the Tesla Model 3 drove itself down Interstate 80.

“Sharma was arrested without incident and booked into Santa Rita Jail on two counts of reckless driving and disobeying a Peace Officer. The Tesla was towed from the scene for evidence, and this incident remains under investigation,” reported the CHP, Golden Gate Division.

As previously reported, the California Highway Patrol has been looking into a man who was seen riding in a Tesla without a driver. The CHP urged the public to report similar accidents at the time in order to keep the roads safe. The Golden Gate Division Communications Center received several 9-1-1 calls on May 10 about a person seated in the backseat of a Tesla Model 3 with an empty driver’s seat, indicating that CHP’s plea was heard.

Sharma was cited by the CHP’s Oakland Area on April 27 for a similar incident. The action of the Tesla Model 3 driver in the backseat demonstrates how reckless some people can be when using Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD).

Tesla is often blamed for the acts of reckless individuals such as Sharma. Tesla can monitor the narrative on Autopilot and FSD, according to some institutional investors, analysts, and others, by forming a public relations team or appointing a public relations individual to handle details about the company’s autonomous driving software.

Many people are still puzzled about Autopilot and FSD, as shown by the comments section of CHP’s recent article about the backseat Tesla Model 3 driver. People often confuse Autopilot and FSD, and are unaware of their respective capabilities.

Some Tesla supporters claim that having a public relations point person or team will be beneficial in answering questions about Autopilot and FSD. A public relations team could also dispel some of the misinformation about Tesla Autopilot and FSD that has been circulating.
