Tesla Cybertruck Dual Motor vs Rivian R1T

Recently, Rivian announced pricing for its latest models of electric pickup trucks, the R1T and R1S, scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2021. We can now compare their basic features and cost with the iconic Tesla Cybertruck that was unveiled last year.

Rivian has confirmed that the Launch Edition will be its first electric vehicle on the path. The company claims the pickups would have a range of 300+ miles, which is equivalent to the Dual Motor variant of the Tesla Cybertruck.

For a pickup truck from Rivian, customers will have to pay:

  • R1T Launch Edition starting price $75,000 with 300+ miles of range
  • R1S Launch Edition starting price $77,500 with 300+ miles of range

For those who are willing to wait until 2022, in the simplest configuration, in which there are only basic, modest details, the pre-order price is slightly lower:

  • R1T Starting at $67,500 with 300+ miles of range
  • R1S Starting at $70,000 with 300+ miles of range

R1T

0-60 mph: 3 secs
Range: 300+ miles
Powertrain: Quad-Motor
Towing capacity: Up to 11,000 lbs
Storage: 68 cu ft
Approach angle: 34.0º
Departure angle: 29.3º
Max ground clearance: 14.2″

R1S

0-60 mph: 3 secs
Range: 300+ miles
Powertrain: Quad-Motor
Towing capacity: Up to 7,700 lbs
Storage: 108 cu ft
Approach angle: 34.3º
Departure angle: 33.7º
Max ground clearance: 14.2″

On the contrast, buyers will pay $17,600 less for a Tesla Cybertruck with a 300+ mile range. The Dual Motor AWD version will cost only $49,900, which is a significant difference, especially if you compare the specifications of the cars.

Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD

0-60 mph: <4.5 secs
Range: 300+ miles (EPA est.)
Drivetrain Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive
Storage: 100 cu ft
Towing capacity: 10,000 lbs
Approach angle: 35º
Departure angle: 28º
Ground clearance: Up to 16 “

The most expensive version of Cybertruck–the Tri Motor AWD–with significantly better performance, can be purchased for as little as $69,900, just $2,400 more than the cheapest and most modest version of the Rivian electric pickup truck.

The main point here is that Cybertruck owners will get 500+ miles of range, which is significantly more than Rivian’s 300+ miles. Let’s take a look at the characteristics of Cybertruck Tri Motor AWD:

0-60 mph: <2.9 secs
Range: 500+ miles (EPA est.)
Drivetrain Tri Motor All-Wheel Drive
Storage: 100 cu ft
Towing capacity: 14,000 lbs
Approach angle: 35º
Departure angle: 28º
Ground clearance: Up to 16 “

The numbers speak for themselves. Today, no one can manufacture an electric vehicle at a price that is more efficient and more affordable than Tesla. The Tesla Cybertruck is still the best deal after years of hard work by Rivian to build a pickup — which it refers to on its website. The Tesla Cybertruck remains the leader with the best range, the best performance, and the best price.
