The Ford F-150 Lightning, one of the most acclaimed all-electric pickup trucks today, seems to be hitting another speed bump. As noted in recent reports, dealer stock orders for the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning have been canceled across the United States.
While reports of F-150 Lightning dealer stock orders being canceled have been shared on social media platforms such as X in previous days, Ford reportedly confirmed on Monday that the all-electric pickup trucks are currently undergoing “additional quality checks” at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center. The details of the quality checks that the vehicles will be subjected to have not been shared.
The Detroit Free Press, which reportedly obtained exclusive information about the F-150 Lightning’s recent updates, noted that Ford is now looking to align its 2023 supply with demand. Ford spokesperson Marty Gunsberg provided some clarification about the situation.
“We have canceled some dealer stock orders not submitted as pre-sold” for model year 2023, the spokesperson stated. Gunsberg, however, highlighted that the customer orders of the F-150 Lightning have not been canceled.
“Our manufacturing team is critical to our quality efforts because they are the last line of defense for delivery to our customers. We’ve identified a couple of additional areas where we believe additional checks are necessary as we ramp up production,” he said.
Gunsberg maintained that the issue with the F-150 Lightnings is not safety-related. He also did not specify the number of canceled orders. Ford, for its part, is expected to report its third-quarter sales of the F-150 Lightning and all its other vehicles this Wednesday.
The Ford F-150 Lightning’s ramp has been notable, but it has also encountered its own fair share of challenges. Production of the F-150 Lightning shut down for five weeks earlier this year after a fire incident in a Dearborn holding lot. Production of the Lightning resumed in March.
