Twitter to give Elon Musk documents related to its fake account calculation methods

On Monday, August 15, a judge ordered Twitter to give Elon Musk documents from a former executive involved in the calculations of bot/spam accounts.

Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick of the Delaware Court of Chancery ordered Twitter to collect, review, and produce documents of its former General Manager of Consumer Product Kayvon Beykpour. The former Twitter executive left the company in April when it agreed to Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition, reported Reuters

Musk’s court filings state Beykpour was “most intimately involved with” calculating Twitter’s amount of fake accounts. Beykpour isn’t the only Twitter employee Musk’s camp wants to know more about, either. Musk’s lawyers also requested to interview additional Twitter employees with access to the company’s bot information.

TWITTER BOT INFORMATION

The Judge denied Musk’s request to interview more Twitter employees. The Tesla CEO’s lawyers can interview 41 people with access to Twitter’s bot information. Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick denied the lawyers’ request to interview an additional 22 Twitter employees.

Twitter’s fake accounts are central to Twitter and Elon Musk’s ongoing legal battles. The social media platform’s fake accounts were one of the top reasons Elon Musk decided to terminate his acquisition plans. Twitter responded with a lawsuit, claiming that Musk’s reasons for termination were “invalid and wrongful.” Elon Musk clapped back at Twitter and countersued.

Despite all the legal battles, Musk said he is still willing to finish his Twitter buyout under the original terms. However, Musk requests that Twitter provide its method of sampling accounts and how accounts are deemed real.
