The Boring Company Vegas Loop updates target capacity to 90k passengers per hour

Elon Musk’s tunneling startup, The Boring Company, has updated its official page for the Vegas Loop, its first underground public transportation system in the United States. According to the company’s official website, the Vegas Loop, once complete, will be able to handle more than 90,000 passengers per hour.

“The Vegas Loop will provide fast and convenient transportation to the Las Vegas community, its visitors, and beyond. The Vegas Loop will include the LVCC Loop and any future service extensions, including those to casinos along the Strip, Harry Reid International Airport, Allegiant Stadium, downtown Las Vegas, and eventually to Los Angeles. Once complete, the Vegas Loop will transport more than 90,000 passengers per hour,” the company’s official website stated.

The Boring Company also notes that Clark County and the City of Las Vegas have approved a total of 65 miles of underground tunnels and 69 stations for the Vegas Loop to date. This will make the Vegas Loop a proper mass transit system, but one that will likely cost just a fraction of the price of conventional underground systems with similar capacities.

The Boring Company’s official website also includes sample transit times and fares for the Vegas Loop. A trip to Harry Reid International Airport, for example, would cover a distance of 4.9 miles and cost $10. Travel time is pretty quick at just 5 minutes. A trip to Allegiant Stadium would cost $6 and take 4 minutes, a trip to downtown Las Vegas would cost just $5 and take 3 minutes, and a trip from downtown Las Vegas to Harry Reid International Airport—a distance of 7.7 miles—would take 8 minutes and cost $12.

The Vegas Loop is becoming The Boring Company’s definitive proof of concept for its underground transportation system technologies, and so far, things seem to be progressing well. In March, the tunneling startup submitted applications to double the size of the Vegas Loop to 65 miles of tunnels with an impressive 69 stations. The proposed network of tunnels would run through the Las Vegas Strip and Central Las Vegas.
