Tesla recently revealed its Supercharger membership packages for Non-Tesla EV owners in the United States via its mobile app.
SUPERCHARGER PACKAGES FOR NON-TESLA EV OWNERS
Tesla is offering two plans to non-Tesla EV owners. The first is the pay-per-use plan. The membership plan is $0.99 per month in the United States, providing access to the Supercharger network at lower per kWh prices.
“Tesla offers an optional Supercharger membership that allows non-Tesla vehicles to charge at lower pay-per-use billing rates than would otherwise apply. A separate membership is needed for each Tesla Account, and each membership is limited to a maximum of five Supercharger charge sessions per day. Membership renews automatically on a monthly basis for a fee charged at the start of each month. Membership pricing and signup details are available in the Tesla app,” noted the EV manufacturer.
The membership plan seems similar to the one offered in the Europe’s non-Tesla Supercharger pilot program, where members received a lower per kWh price. It seems Tesla plans to roll out the open Supercharger Network to limited stations across the United States first. Tesla may decide to open all of its Supercharger stations to non-Tesla EV owners later.
“Non-Tesla vehicles may access certain Wall Connectors and other Tesla charging stations on a pay-per-use basis. Charging stations that are available to non-Tesla vehicles are indicated in the Tesla app or may be identified by other means,” stated Tesla.
TESLA OPEN SUPERCHARGER NETWORK U.S. LAUNCH
Some Redditors in r/teslamotors think that the $0.99 per week charge is a placeholder since it is significantly cheaper than other charging station memberships. For instance, Electrify America’s membership costs $4 per month.
Shortly after Tesla “launched” its open Supercharger Network through the app, some Redditors noted that it was quickly taken back down. Some EV owners were able to sign up for the membership before it was taken down. However, the FAQs page stated that the service isn’t available in the U.S. yet.
The Biden-Harris Administration released a fact sheet last month, hinting that the non-Tesla Supercharger Pilot program would be available in the United States much later this year. The recent sighting of the service in Tesla’s mobile app might be the company preparing for the offer before the launch.
The non-Tesla Supercharger Pilot program is currently running in Europe.
