Tesla FSD beta poised for EU rollout as UK allows self-driving cars on motorways

In two weeks, Tesla is planning to Version 9 of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta program. According to Elon Musk, FSD V9.0 will “blow your mind.”

The V9 iteration of the FSD beta will aid Tesla’s vehicles in navigating city streets. Tesla’s pure vision take on autonomous vehicles, which Elon Musk has been teasing for some time, appears to be coming with the next FSD beta update.

“There’s no question in my mind that with a pure vision solution, we can make a car that is dramatically safer than the average person. So — but it is a hard problem because we are actually solving something quite fundamental about artificial intelligence, where we basically have to solve real-world vision AI,” explained Elon Musk at the last TSLA earnings call.

FSD beta is expected to become more widely available in the United States in the near future, according to Tesla. FSD beta’s widespread release could be aided by Tesla’s FSD subscription program, which Elon Musk predicted will be available in May. Tesla also intends to make the FSD download beta button available by the end of June.

FSD beta will also be released in other countries, including Canada, according to the EV automaker. Elon Musk said that the FSD beta’s release in Canada could take a few months due to “subtle differences between US & Canada driving.”

FSD beta could be released in Europe this summer, and the timing could be perfect. According to Reuters, the United Kingdom (UK) recently became the first country to allow self-driving cars on major public roads. The UK government declared that it would begin restricting the use of self-driving cars on highways at low speeds of less than 37 miles per hour (60 km/h).

According to Automotive World, the UK’s Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles expects to begin autonomous vehicle testing in Spring 2021. The trials could pave the way for Automated Lane Keeping Systems (ALKS) to be implemented on UK roads.
