Tesla will be taking part in the 2023 Shenzhen Auto Show, which is expected to start this Friday, June 16, 2023. This is the first time that Tesla is participating in a Chinese auto show since its dramatic exhibition back in April 2021.
The 2023 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show (Auto Shenzhen 2023) will take place at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. Organizers of the event have confirmed Tesla as one of the event’s exhibitors.
Tesla’s last participation at a Chinese auto show ended up being dramatic. During the Shanghai Auto Show on April 19, 2021, a protester climbed on top of a Model 3 display unit at Tesla’s booth and accused the company’s vehicles of brake failure. Tesla showed data defending its vehicles, but the coverage of the protest was notable. Tesla and the protester were later involved in legal battles.
Since then, Tesla has refrained from participating in any subsequent auto shows in China, including the most recent 2023 Shanghai Auto Show, which took place two months ago. With its participation at the Shenzhen Auto Show, it appears that Tesla is finally willing to try its hand again at dedicated car exhibitions in China.
The media day for the forthcoming auto show is scheduled for June 16, with general admission open from June 17 to June 24. Tesla’s booth is located in Hall 9 on the 1st floor of the exhibition. Interestingly enough, Tesla’s booth will be located next to local competitor XPeng. The exhibition will also feature booths of other companies such as BYD, NIO, Huawei-backed AITO, and Leapmotor.
