General Motors and EVgo have made significant progress in their partnership aimed at expanding fast charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs). The recent achievement of installing their 1,000th DC Fast Charging stall marks a major milestone in their collective effort to electrify the transportation sector.
Cathy Zoe, CEO of EVgo, expressed enthusiasm about reaching this milestone, highlighting their vision of “Electric for All” and the determination to further expand the charging footprint with General Motors in the coming years.
As part of their collaboration, GM and EVgo have successfully established EV fast charging stalls at nearly 230 locations across 39 markets in 27 states. Most of these charging stations are high-powered 350 kW fast charging units, ensuring efficient and rapid charging for EV owners.
The joint effort aims to provide convenient access to EV charging stalls in areas where drivers often spend time, such as grocery stores, retail centers, and city areas. Additionally, the focus is on offering charging services to EV drivers who cannot charge at home or work, such as renters.
Hoss Hassani, General Motors’ vice president of Charging and Energy, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting customers as they transition to an EV lifestyle. GM’s vision of an all-electric future involves expanding public charging infrastructure alongside the rapid expansion of their breakthrough EV portfolio, making electric vehicles accessible to everyone.
To further advance their goal of widespread EV charging access, General Motors collaborates with various companies, including Tesla, Stellantis, Hyundai, and others. The automaker has adopted Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) and teamed up with six other automakers, namely BMW Group, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, and Stellantis NV, to establish a high-powered charging network in North America. This network will encompass stalls configured for both Tesla NACS and the Combined Charging System (CCS).
