The short version

Most Model Y issues are cosmetic or software-related, not drivetrain failures. The items below are the most commonly reported by owners — each with guidance on whether to act.

Most-reported items

  • Wind noise: especially around mirrors and door seals on earlier builds. Many owners add aftermarket seals; some were fixed under warranty.
  • Panel gaps / trim fit: varies by build. Document with photos; cosmetic-only gaps are often left as-is.
  • 12V battery life: 3-5 years typical; the car warns before failure.
  • Camera/autopilot hiccups: usually transient, often after updates or in bad weather.
  • Rattles: door cards, seat belts, and trunk areas are the usual suspects. Felt tape resolves many.

What is NOT common

Drive unit and battery failures are rare relative to the fleet size. The battery and drive unit warranty covers 8 years / 120,000 miles (Long Range) — check your specific terms.
