The short version

Set up your phone key, verify your software version, configure charging limits and Sentry, and drive in Chill mode until you are comfortable. Nothing else is urgent.

Day 1 checklist

  • Pair your phone key and verify walk-up unlock works.
  • Connect your home Wi-Fi and let the car download any pending update (on Wi-Fi to avoid data use).
  • Set your charge limit — 80% is a reasonable daily default for Long Range; Tesla recommends lower for daily use.
  • Enable Sentry Mode if you park in public.
  • Set up your driver profile, mirrors, and seat positions.

Day 2

  • Take a slow test drive: regen braking, one-pedal feel, parking sensors.
  • Check tire pressures cold in the tire service screen (front 42 psi / rear 42 psi for most Model Y configs on 19″ wheels — confirm with your door label).
  • Try a home or public charge session so you know how the port works before you need it.

What to ignore

Minor panel gaps, software quirks after an update, and range that drops in cold weather are all normal. Document anything that genuinely looks broken and submit a service request with photos.
